MYANMAR (BURMA) IN SOUTH EAST ASIA
Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, and is named the Land of Pagoda’s with good reason. From the gilded Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon and the multitude of temples in Bagan, to the gentle tinkling of bells on the stupas of In Dein on Inle Lake – Burma’s Buddhist culture is everywhere to behold. This fledgling on the tourist route, is fast gaining in popularity, especially the central to Northern loop. South of Yangon is still only on the backpacker route, so you’ll be safe from tour bus groups for now.
A hair-raising 4 hr trip from Mawlamyine to Dawei in a jam-packed minivan, with no air-con at 40°C, along shocking roads, with a driver who thought he was behind the wheel of a Ferrari! We didn’t need…
Hot air balloons rising at sunset over stupas and temples which dot the countryside as far as the eye can see. Watching Sunsets over this magnificent landscape from the top of temples. Vibrantly coloured festival parades.
